Ease into it

With so many exciting sporting events taking place in the month of July, many will become inspired to take up some exercise.

But, warns the South African Society of Physiotherapy, resist the temptation to do too much too soon. Start slowly and gradually build up the intensity and frequency of your exercise sessions.

It is also important to properly warm up and not to skip the “cool down” part of your training regimen.

Your physiotherapist can advise on an exercise program best suited to your needs and offer tips and guidelines on how to prevent injuries and strengthen weak muscles.
