Please check your authorisation expiry date

WOW! What a start to the new year it has been with January 2017 already gone!

And things are happening at a rapid pace. Globally we have a new leader in the US in the form of President Donald Trump and leadership changes on our continent.

Closer to home we’ve had the State of the Nation Address, petrol price increase, Stats SA’s Living Conditions Survey, the Competition Commission’s investigation on “Restrictive and exclusionary practices” related to after sales (workshops), Retail Distribution Review and the implementation plans for Phase 1, The legality of Dashcams in SA and last but most important of all the Second-Hand Goods Act, 2009.

It has been five years since the first Registrations and Authorisations to act as a second-hand goods dealer was issued under the new ACT, and you will remember that we at the IDA was part of, and was approved as an Accredited Second-Hand Goods Association as part of that most important piece of legislation. To all our Dealer Members please check your authorisation expiry date, the authorisation should be displayed in a visible and durable manner so that anyone can see it.

If your authorisation expiry date is within the next ninety days, please access our IDA Website [Member Log-in>IDA Member>Document Downloads> SAPS 601(e)] and print/complete the SAPS 601(e) application for renewal. The completed form must be handed in at your nearest police station. You can start applying within the ninety-day period. Because of only having to do this once every five years, you will have to do fingerprints and remember two ID-size photos to accompany your application.

Without the authorisation we cannot TRADE....

As stated in our first issue, we at the IDA and Lightstone Auto are more than ever focused to understand the ever-increasing changes and challenges in your business and how we can meet your needs and expectations. We are hard at work on implementing some of our strategies for 2017/8 and watch this space for more information related to your business.

All the best,

Robbie Starke
