New improved benefits for MISA members at RMI establishments & how to register for eligibility

From January 2018, MISA members who work at RMI establishments will qualify for the new improved benefits, which are linked to the Sick, Accident, and Maternity Pay Fund that MISA and the RMI negotiated in 2015. It is also important to note that you need to register to be eligible for the new benefits. 


As part of this exclusive agreement with the RMI, MISA members at RMI establishments now qualify for an additional R10 000 death benefit cover of R10 000, upon the passing of the main member. This is in addition to a R10 000 funeral cover for the principal member, spouse or partner and children between 14 and 18 years of age as well funeral cover of R 7 000 for children under the age of 14.

Please note that this additional benefit is subject to a waiting period of 8 weeks’ consecutive contributions.

No additional cost to the member
The cost of the Sick, Accident and Maternity Pay Fund and Funeral Benefits for MISA members at RMI establishments will be borne by their employers.

Registering and claiming for the new benefits for MISA Members at RMI establishments

To be eligible for the new benefits linked to the Sick, Accident and Maternity Pay Fund that MISA and the RMI have negotiated, all Fund members are required to register and nominate beneficiaries by completing the Registration/Nomination form.

Members are reminded that with effect from 1 January 2018, all employees registered on the Fund will receive the benefits based on applicable terms and conditions. 

To claim the additional benefits in the unfortunate event of death, members are required to complete the Application form for Death and Funeral Benefits for Deceased Member or Deceased Dependent.

Please note:

Funeral Benefits of R10 000 will be limited to the payment of three claims (which include the payment of the funeral benefit for the member) per annum and in the event of the R7 000 Funeral Benefit, a limitation of two claims per annum will apply.
