Beware of computer thieves at dealerships

Criminals have started a new trend stealing PCs at dealerships.

Randburg Sun reports that Hyundai Strijdom Park suffered two burglaries in one month during February. Each time, a large number of PCs were stolen.

Hyundai Strijdom Park's new vehicles sales manager, Sean Longley, told the newspaper, "People are speculating that the PCs are stolen to be smuggled across the border."

The hard drives in the desktops are reportedly worth about R500 on the black market. Another possibility is that suspects could use any customer information on the PCs in a fraudulent manner.

According to Randburg Sun, other dealerships in Strijdom Park, Bryanston, and Weltervreden Park have suffered the same fate.
