RIP Abel

Some members may have experienced difficulty opening the link to the article on Abel's accident. The link has been corrected, and we apologise for the inconvenience.

It is with sadness that we mourn the death of a popular and well-liked member of our Kitty Hawk family in this issue. As you know by now, Abel Pienaar (64), better known as "Oom Ses" was killed on Thursday, 12 May 2016, when his plane crashed shortly after take-off from Kitty Hawk.

Our condolences go out to Abel's friends and family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time. Please click here for a recent article on the accident.

We were privileged to assist the SAPS with their aviation training at Kitty Hawk recently and I'd like to thank everyone at Kitty Hawk for their valuable contribution.

We also share an article in this issue on safety, which really is everyone's concern. I would like to urge our members to take heed of the important information contained therein. The safety at Kitty Hawk depends on all who use the facility and I know we can count on our members' cooperation.

Rezoning in the final stages

As you know, the rezoning process has been underway since March 2015. We seem to have crossed most of the hurdles in the City of Tshwane rezoning process. The outstanding item is approval by Gautrans in terms of our access point due to the fact that Boschkop road is earmarked for a high mobility road with few intersections.

We hope that the rezoning process will be completed in the next three months so that the development of additional hangars can provide Kitty Hawk with funding going forward.

Lastly, we bring you some photos of our RV Raptors team in action. Well done guys, you do us proud!

All the best,

Frank van Heerden
